POLAR BEAR STAMP
On May 9, 1926, Richard E. Byrd and pilot Floyd Bennett attempted a flight over the North Pole in a Fokker Tri-motor monoplane. The flight went Svalbard and back to its take-off airfield, lasting ca. sixteen hours. However, Byrd's and Bennett's claim to have reached the North Pole, a distance of 1,535 miles (1,335 nautical miles), is disputed.
